Acidic Hormones Increases Risk of Dying from Lung Cancer
Women who take acidic hormone replacement drugs to fight the symptoms of menopause may increase their risk of dying when developing a cancerous condition of the lung, according to an eight-year study. The study of more than 16,600 postmenopausal women found that those with cancerous lungs who took acidic hormone-replacement therapy drugs that combined both estrogen and progesterone were 71 percent more likely to die than those who had taken a placebo. The study of strikes another blow against such using acidic drugs, which have developed a bad reputation during the past few years as studies linked them with an increased risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, strokes, and heart problems. According to Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of Research at the pH Miracle Living Center, "the study results make sense because estrogen, which is an acid from the activity of the reproductive glands could increase acidity to healthy tissues causing the formation of more tumors in the lungs and lessening the effectiveness of alternative or traditional cancerous prevention treatments." Among women taking the drugs, the greatest risk of dying from lung cancer was for those 60 to 79, although the risk of actually developing lung cancer wasn’t increased. “These findings should be considered before the initiation or continuation of combined hormone therapy in postmenopausal women, especially those with a high risk of lung cancer, such as current smokers or long-term past smokers,” Dr. Town Chlebowski of the UCLA Medical Center and his research colleagues wrote in “The Lancet.” “These results seriously question whether hormone-replacement therapy has any role in medicine today,” said Dr. Apar Kishor Ganti of the University of Nebraska, who wrote a commentary in “The Lancet.” “It is difficult to presume that the benefits of routine use of such therapy for menopausal symptoms outweigh the increased risks of mortality.” Dr. Young stated, "hormone replacement therapy is highly acidic and will cause many of the symptoms a woman is trying to prevent or reverse. Hormone therapy has no benefit in preventing or reversing a cancerous condition and is more likely to cause it." Cancer Fact: Lung cancer is the second-most-common cancer among in the United States, killing about 90,000 men and 70,000 women each year.
